By Dave Nyam •  Updated: 02/22/24 •  6 min read

The South African Revenue Service, or SARS, is in charge of obtaining taxes from both individuals and companies. You can make tax payments in several ways, including by electronic funds transfer (EFT). EFT is a secure and practical way for taxpayers to send money to SARS. This post will cover the procedure for paying SARS via EFT, the procedure for paying SARS via eFiling, the location of your SARS PRN number, the process for adding SARS as a beneficiary on Absa online banking, and the procedure for authorizing SARS with FNB.

Let’s get started!

How to make payment to SARS via EFT

Consider using electronic funds transfer to SARS to settle your tax debt quickly and easily. The procedure is uncomplicated, and you can finish it in a short amount of time. Get started with SARS eFiling by entering your username and password. After signing in, head to the appropriate INCOME TAX WORK PAGE and hit the button labelled “Request Historical Notice.” When you’re ready, choose the box labelled “I want to request a Statement of Account” and hit the following button. The account statement will load, and at the bottom, you’ll see the payment information you need to submit your payment.

Payments to SARS must include a valid payment reference number, so be careful to enter it correctly. Once you have the necessary information, you may either pay online through your bank’s website or physically go to the bank to make the payment. Keep a payment record for your records if you need to provide SARS with proof of payment.

How do I make a payment to SARS eFiling?

SARS eFiling is a fast and convenient way to make tax payments.

After requesting a statement of account or ITA34 through SARS eFiling, you’ll see a “Make Payment” button on your income tax or provisional tax work page.

Start by clicking “Make Payment”  and go to the “Payment Summary” page. Click “Pay Now” after editing the amount, and a box will prompt you to pay. Click “OK” to proceed.

Select the bank account to pay from, and remember eFiling doesn’t require banking information. You can still register and click “Setup New Account” under “Banking Details.” Add your bank account information.

Select “Credit Push, ” enter your bank account to pay SARS, and check the bank and account number. After creating your account, click “General Unpaid” under “Payments” to return to your payment section.

Check the box on the right and click “Make Electronic Payment” to finish your payment. Return to “Payment Details” and choose the newly created bank account and payment request date. Click “Pay Now” to finish paying.

On the “Confirm Payment Initiation” page, verify the amount, date, and bank account before clicking “Confirm.” On the “Payment Summary” page, log into your bank account and authorize the payment.

How do I add SARS as a beneficiary on Absa internet banking?

Adding SARS as a beneficiary on your Absa internet banking profile is straightforward! Also, paying taxes via the internet is fast, easy, and safe, and follow these steps to make it possible:

Log into the Absa Banking App first. Logging in displays a “Pay” button, and tap this button, then “Pay a Bill.”

Add SARS as a beneficiary. Select “Pay new beneficiary” and input the account holder’s name, account number, and bank branch code. Select “Next” after entering all the information.

You’ll get a notice stating the beneficiary addition if you submit the information correctly. Congratulations! SARS is now your Absa online banking beneficiary.

Select “Home” or “Make Payment” to pay SARS, then follow the steps. On the payment method selection screen, choose the beneficiary you just added, input the payment amount, and confirm.

Therefore, follow these procedures to pay SARS electronically from home.

Where do I find my SARS PRN number?

Before looking for your SARS PRN number, ensure you know what it means. A Payment Reference Number (PRN) is assigned to each payment made to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), which is required for proper payment allocation.

You can get your PRN number on SARS payment confirmations and statements. However, if you need clarification, contact SARS at 0800 00 7277 and provide your ID number and payment information to obtain the PRN number.

To issue a PRN number to first-time SARS payers, SARS requires a tax number. After completing the online form, you must visit a SARS branch to obtain this tax number.

After receiving your tax number, you can generate a PRN number for SARS payments in your eFiling account. Use the correct PRN number for allocating payments.

How do I authorize SARS with FNB?

If you require FNB authorization for SARS, you’ve arrived at the right place. The steps to follow to finish the procedure are listed below.

To begin, sign in to your FNB online banking account. Click the “Payments” option or button on the FNB main page afterwards, and then click the “eFiling + Smart IDs” sub-tab on the “Pay Recipient” page after that.

Next, a list of the eFiling payment requests you created on the SARS website will show up. Select the request to approve by clicking the “Pay” button. You should double-check the accuracy of the payment information before proceeding since a “Please Confirm” screen will appear.

Once you have verified all the details, click “Pay” to complete the authorization process. To return to the list of payments if the information is incorrect, click the “Cancel” button. Finally, click the “Finish” button when the “Thank You” page appears, and you’re done.

Note that although you can’t enter SARS eFiling payments through the FNB app, they can be authorized. The FNB app allows you to authorize payments made on your computer. You only need to log in to the FNB app, select “Authorise,” “Financials,” and finally, “Payments.” The e-Filing payment should be available for you to inspect and approve.

Conclusion

In conclusion, navigating the South African Revenue Service (SARS) can be overwhelming, but ensuring compliance with tax regulations is essential. Whether you are adding SARS as a beneficiary on your internet banking platform or authorizing a payment with FNB, understanding the steps involved can help simplify the process.

Additionally, knowing where to find your SARS PRN number or how to register for a tax number comes in handy. Following the guidelines and seeking help from relevant authorities when necessary, you can successfully navigate SARS and meet your tax obligations.
