How to Add your Company Tax Number to your eFiling Profile

By Tevait Feanle •  Updated: 11/27/24 •  5 min read

If you are an individual who is also a company owner, eFiling will allow you to manage both your personal tax and your company tax via their platform. With some new changes to their system, it is now easier than ever to merge and maintain profiles through one eFiling login. Today we will bring you all the details you need to know to add a company and personal tax number to an eFiling profile.

How to Add your Company Tax Number to your eFiling Profile

If you already have a standard individual eFiling profile, you once could only maintain your personal details through the profile. Instead, if you had both company and personal taxes to file, you should have created a new eFIling profile under the “Organizations” profile type from the start.

As with the related “Tax Practitioner’ eFiling profile type, Organizations allow you to manage several eFiling profiles under one central log-in area. Don’t worry if you have an individual-type profile, however. As a bid to make eFiling even easier, you can now activate the Organization-style profile from your existing account.

Once you have added your company tax number to your eFiling profile, you will be able to use the eFiling system to submit tax returns, view tax information, and communicate with SARS on behalf of your company. If you encounter any difficulties adding your company tax number to your profile, you can contact the SARS Contact Centre for assistance.

Remember that you and your company are two different tax-paying ‘entities’ to SARS, who will still file under their individual tax numbers. You cannot ‘link’ a company to an existing individual’s tax number.

How do I Add my Company Details to SARS eFiling?

You will typically add all the company details needed at the time you create the profile for the company. Simply follow the onscreen prompts and enter your company details. Should you need to change or add details later, you can:

If supporting documents are required, you will be prompted to upload them.

How do I Activate Company Tax on eFiling?

If you are registering a new company for eFiling for the first time, you will simply head to the eFiling site and create a new profile as the company there. Use the company’s tax number and details rather than your private details.

As we covered in the first section above, you can also activate company tax options from an existing individual profile. You would use this in cases such as where an entrepreneur currently filing as a sole proprietor has chosen to incorporate their company as a PTY LTD to leverage more favourable tax options or file new company-focused tax types like EMP501s or EMP201s. Follow the instructions under ‘How to Add your Company Tax Number to your eFiling Profile’ above to activate this new option on your profile.

How do I Combine Tax Forms on eFiling?

There is no such thing as joint filing of specific tax forms for an individual and company together. Remember that SARS uses the concept of individual tax-paying entities to manage tax obligations, so your company and you are separated ‘individuals’ to the revenue service, and each ‘individual’ must file their various tax type obligations under their allocated tax number. However, you can conveniently manage both company and individual profiles to allow you to more conveniently access them all from a central location.

Simply follow the steps we outlined above to create a section for your company/organization on your eFiling profile. If you currently have two separate eFiling profiles for the entities with different logins and usernames, you can choose to merge the profiles together into one. This is done through form RAV01 on eFiling. You will need to have a registered representative activated for the company. This may need a one-time visit to a SARS office to finalize.

Then you can head to ‘merge entities’ on the left-hand menu of eFIling. Follow the on-screen prompts to finalize the merge. If you encounter any issues, contact the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 SARS (7277) for further assistance.

Being able to manage all your tax obligations in your individual capacity as well as for a company in one place can be incredibly convenient. Not only does this help you stay on top of your tax obligations and never miss a filing date, but you can have full control over your tax matters from start-to-finish.
