What Happens If You Don’t Write Exam At Unisa

By Klenam JU •  Updated: 01/23/24 •  5 min read

Taking exams at the University of South Africa is an essential component for evaluating students’ comprehension and mastery of course content. Exams play a crucial role in assessing students’ knowledge and skills in a consistent and unbiased manner, promoting academic honesty and equal opportunities for all. If you choose not to take exams, there can be some negative consequences, such as being unable to progress academically and facing limitations in your career opportunities.

Adhering to regulations, such as exam schedules and guidelines, helps ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all students. Ensuring the credibility of the university and guaranteeing that degrees reflect true competence are important factors. In general, taking exams at UNISA is crucial for personal development, fostering a sense of responsibility, and ensuring the institution maintains a high standard of education.
As you have understood the importance of exams at UNISA, we will highlight the consequences of not writing exams at UNISA and highlight some minor details on UNISA’s exams.

What happens if you don’t write exam at Unisa

If you miss exams at UNISA, it can have a negative impact on your academic progress. It could even lead to a failing grade for the course or module you’re taking. It is important to ensure you follow UNISA’s examination schedule, guidelines, and communication regarding exam dates and procedures.

If you fail to take an exam at the University of South Africa (UNISA), you will usually be given an “Absent” grade for that specific exam.

Students who miss exams are not eligible for supplementary examinations. If students miss the papers, they will need to enrol again for the next course to have the opportunity to take the exams at the end of the following semester.

What happens if you submit an exam late at Unisa?

The policy and regulation regarding UNISA exams have undergone significant changes recently.

UNISA has made significant progress in stabilising its examination platform and has recently decided to shorten the time allowed for submitting examination answers to just 30 minutes. Most of our students have been able to submit their answer scripts within the given 30-minute time frame successfully.

UNISA consistently reminds its students to promptly stop writing as soon as the session duration ends and then log in to myExams to submit their work. A 30-minute buffer is allocated to handle any potential challenges that may occur while uploading.

While the above may look into the online exam submission, it also follows for those physically writing the UNISA exams at the various exam centres.

Refusing to submit your exams on time will cost you a lot. You are on the verge of losing a precious serious mask if you submit your exams late at the exam centre.

If you submit your exams late, they may be rejected, and as a result, you will not receive any grades for that specific module or course.

What percentage is a fail at Unisa?

When it comes to academic performance, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of the grading system and the criteria used to determine whether a student has passed or failed. Like many other educational institutions, the grading scale is usually denoted in percentages at the University of South Africa.

At the University of South Africa, if a student scores a percentage of 49 on exams, it is considered a failing grade.

It’s important to keep in mind that every mark you receive contributes to your overall performance. Regarding education, the final grade carries a lot of importance as it includes not only the main exams but also other assessments. The complete assessment contributes to the student’s final grade, encompassing 100%. It represents the final result of all their hard work during the academic semester. The final grade is determined by considering different factors, with the main exams playing a crucial role.

Can you skip a semester at Unisa?

The academic calendar at UNISA is divided into two semesters, each covering half of the university’s academic activities. The well-organized system in place ensures that students are provided with a clear understanding of the academic year, allowing them to effectively plan their studies. UNISA offers students a well-balanced workload and sufficient time to concentrate on their coursework by dividing the year into two semesters. I would like to explore the intricacies of UNISA’s academic calendar and discuss the advantages it offers to students.

Some students at UNISA may consider the possibility of skipping a semester. However, it’s important to keep in mind that making this decision will have consequences, specifically the loss of grades.

When it comes to academia, choosing to take a semester off without a valid and compelling reason can result in important consequences. It’s like suddenly stopping your educational journey, cutting short your academic pursuits for that year. Students enrolled at the University of South Africa can defer their studies if needed. However, it’s important to mention that skipping an entire semester is generally seen as giving up on one’s academic progress.

If students choose to skip a semester, there is a possibility that they may lose the progress they have made in their courses. This implies that any grades obtained before that moment will be lost.
