How long does it take to verify SARS registration?

Once you complete the registration process, SARS will commence validating your details, and the outcome will be communicated on your eFiling registration page or via email.

SARS aims to activate new eFiling profiles within 48 hours where no supporting documents are required. If additional supporting documents are required, SARS will advise on what documents you will need to provide and a timescale that these need to be provided within. Generally, the timescale is 21 days.

How do I know if my taxes got approved?

If your registration is successful, an OTP will be sent to you, which will allow you to complete the registration process. The status of the registration may be returned as “Registration Successful,’ ‘Registration Rejected,’ or ‘Awaiting Supporting Documents.’

If your registration is unsuccessful, you will not be allowed to use the eFiling service and will need to respond according to the information in the correspondence received.

In the event that the registration is not processed within 48 hours, you can check for further requirements requested by SARS at www.sars.go.za and click on ‘Pending Registration.’

How do I know if I am registered for eFiling?

If you are unsure if you are registered for eFiling, there are a few ways that you can check this.

The easiest way to do this is to attempt logging in to your eFiling account and checking your status yourself. You would have needed to have created an eFiling account in the past; however, in some instances, this may have been done for you already by a previous employer or tax practitioner.

If you are unsure about your username or password, you can retrieve these by clicking on “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password” on the homepage. You will require your username in order to retrieve your password, so it’s always advisable to request this information first.

Alternatively, you can:

The Notice of Registration (IT150) will reflect your tax reference number and serves to confirm that you are a registered and verified taxpayer. You can request a copy of this notice in the following ways:

You can also send a query directly to SARS using the Online Query function, which can be found here
