You need to be a resident of South Africa and either a refugee, a citizen, or a permanent resident. Additionally, you must have a physical or mental impairment that prevents you from working or making a living wage, be between 18 and 59, and meet the other eligibility requirements. Furthermore, you cannot already be the beneficiary of a private grant for your disability, and you must be able to demonstrate the disability with sufficient medical support to receive SASSA approval.

To receive the grant, even if you meet the requirements, you must pass the SASSA means test. This case means having a maximum household income of R92 520 annually, or R6 800 per month, for a single person and a maximum household income of R185 040 annually, or R15 420 per month, when there are two caregivers for the disabled person. Considering this, the government will periodically raise the means test to reflect inflation.

Every month, usually in the middle of the first week, SASSA divides its grant recipients into 3 days. You can anticipate receiving your SASSA disability payment on the second day of the cycle, which falls between the first and tenth of the month.
