To qualify for Financial Aid:
- Must be a citizen of South Africa
- Applicants’ combined household income must not be more than R350,000 per annum.
- A person with a disability whose combined income is no more than R600,000 annually.
- Can be a SASSA grant recipient.
- Applicants who have registered at the University before 2018 have an income of no more than R122,000 per annum.

For 2025 applicants, yes, it is too late, as the last date ended this year in July. Students who are looking forward to applying for the 2025 session. Here is the good news I have to give you. You can start applying from November 2, 2025, to January 7, 2025, to get your financial aid for the next year. Students can keep an eye on the NSFAS social media platforms and the official website to see when the application portal opens. You can only apply during the duration of NSFAS opening and closing dates.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2025 Online?

Firstly, you need to register with the site as an online user by visiting the myNSFAS link. After this, you need to:
- Go to NSFAS’s official website here.
- Click on the myNSFAS tab, and then register.
- Tick the boxes to let NSFAS verify all the details. In the provided box, give your ID Number. It must be the South African Identity Document Number.
- Provide your full name, present email address, and mobile number/telephone number.
- Confirm your email ID. Create the password, and then confirm it.
- Upload the ID Copy, and then click on the register option. You will get an OTP after clicking.
- Type the OTP and submit it, and this will complete your registration process.
Now, click the APPLY Tab on the official website of NSFAS to direct to your financial aid online application form. You can get all the requisite document details here, making you eligible for this financial aid.
NSFAS Status Check
The NSFAS status check is important after successfully depositing your online application on the NSFAS platform. It will help you seek your students’ funding status from the South African government’s National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
You can simultaneously check the status of your student funding by clicking on the myNSFAS tab. The myNSFAS account will show you the current status of your funding approval or initiation process. The same email and password you created while applying for the NSFAS 2024 must be inserted.
