Rewriting your matric is designed to improve your results and help you achieve higher career goals. Candidates can combine their results from several exam sessions, which is a great benefit to having the best grades on a single matric certificate. Therefore, if you have written matric exams in multiple sessions, you can still use old results to your advantage. This article explains the significance of combining results and the steps involved.

Can You Use Your Old Matric Results After Rewriting?

When you rewrite matric exams, you can still use your old certificates. However, you can do this after combining your old and new matric results to get the best grades. Instead of using multiple subject certificates, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) allows candidates to merge their Matric and Amended Senior Certificate results. You must meet certain requirements, and the subjects should not include practical assignments.

If you obtain not-so-favourable results in November exams, you can rewrite your exams in June. Both results will be recognised, and you can apply for a change of status with the DBE to merge the results.

How Do You Combine Matric Results After Rewrite?

You can combine your matric results after a rewrite online, or you go in person to the DBE. Candidates can apply to merge their results online by downloading and completing a replacement certificate from https://www.education.gov.za. Scan and attach the copies of the results you have obtained in different matric exam sessions you want to combine. You must also provide a scanned copy of your ID and proof of payment to the DBE. Upload and submit the documents on the portal above.

Alternatively, you can visit your local DBE office to apply for the merging of your matric results in person. You must have the above documents when you submit your application.

How Long Does It Take To Get Your Combined Matric Results?

The process of combining matric results can take up to four or six weeks from the date of application. When you submit your application, you will receive a combination statement of your results, which shows that you’re yet to get your combined certificate.

The process of combining your matric results involves the following steps:

The certificate you get does not show that you have combined results from multiple exam sessions. Instead, it is a reflection of your matric achievements.

Do Universities Accept Rewrite Results?

Universities accept rewrite examinations as long as you meet the admission requirements of the particular institution you want to join. If there are additional requirements for a specific course, you should ensure that you meet them. For instance, a matric rewrite will give you an added advantage of getting a place at university since it helps you attain better marks.

Universities give first preference to students with higher pass levels on their matric certificates. For instance, prospective university students must have a bachelor’s pass in matric. You can attain this pass if you earn higher grades in your subjects. Rewriting certain subjects will help students earn higher grades required in different courses at university.

When you rewrite your matric exams, you can combine the certificates so that you can use a single certificate with higher passes. Therefore, the best option you can consider to improve your matric results is to rewrite specific exams to improve your chances of meeting the entry requirements for particular programs.

Candidates with poor matric results might not get places to study at South African universities. Rewriting your matric exams is the only gateway to pursuing a degree program if you do not have high passes. As explained above, all rewrite passes once combined into a single certificate, are not included. You will be just as good as someone who has passed their matric in a single sitting. In other words, a matric rewrite is designed to help all South Africans intending to study at university get equal opportunities.

How Much Does It Cost to Merge Matric Results?

The current cost of merging matric results into a single certificate is R141. The money covers the combination of results and the replacement of the certificate. If you want it to be delivered to your home, you will need to pay R52 on top of the courier service. The fees are subject to change, and they are reviewed every year.

Before you submit your application for merging your matric certificates, it is imperative to verify the cost with your nearest Department of Basic Education. You must also pay the required money via electronic funds transfer (EFT) or bank or bank to facilitate the process. Without proof of payment, the DBE may not start working on your documents.

A matric rewrite helps candidates with lower grades improve their overall matric results. You can combine your old and new matric results to enjoy the advantage of being accepted to study at any university of your choice or pursue your dream career. The process of merging multiple matric results is simple as long as you follow instructions and provide the relevant document. From the day of submission of your application, you should expect to get the merged certificate in about six weeks.
