Matric results for 2026 were announced on the 14th of January, 2026. They will always be released towards the end of January following the year you wrote your examinations. You can use the Department of Basic Education’s website to track the exact dates for your year.

How To Find Online Matric Results 2026

You can also use the MatricsMate app, ask at your place of learning, or, for Gauteng learners, use the GPG Matrics app. Below, we’ve outlined two ways to get your results via your mobile phone.

Can I Check My Matric Results Online With My ID Number?

You can check your Matric results online via the Department of Education website. However, you won’t use your ID number but rather your Matric examination number, which you received when you wrote your final exams. Luckily, it’s a super-simple portal to use and will give you immediate access to your matric results once they are released.

What To Do While Waiting for Matric Results?

Waiting for your matric results can be a scary time. After all, the future of your education hinges on your performance! Luckily, you don’t have to sit on your hands until you have your results.

Start off by making certain you understand how the Matric Pass Levels work and what the one you receive will mean for your educational future. You should have a good idea of the general level of results you expect from your Matric pass based on your prior academic performance. This will determine the institutions for further learning you can apply for.

Also, take some time to think carefully about your adult future. What careers and career paths are you hoping to open up? What courses of study interest you, and what institutions offer them? Gather together the information needed on requirements for each course. Now is also the time to begin your application process.

While you can wait for your results to be finalized, this will reduce the application time you have open to you, and you will be doing it when everyone else is doing the same, leading to delays and frustration. Most institutions will consider a provisional application based on your academic performance, allowing you to start the process earlier. This is especially smart if you need bursaries or funding sources for your tertiary education, as you can also begin applying for them.

But life isn’t just about exam results. You should also be spending this time exploring your life goals and the soft and hard skills you have to support them. Try journaling or mind-mapping a path for your future career and education so you can start planning your adult life. Remember that some education sources are still open to you even without a matric, so you are never without options- it just needs careful planning and solid goal setting on your side.
