Supposing you are an employee who may have been sacked from work or retrenched, your employer takes the responsibility to begin the deregistering process. Now let us look at how to deregister UIF. 

How long does it take to be cleared from UIF?

Being cleared from UIF is considered as getting paid by UIF after submitting your claim forms. Once you qualify for UIF, the ultimate step is to apply for the benefits and wait for approval. 

The process of the form submission and approval can take weeks.

Regardless, your details being cleared from UIF confirming the need and the validity of your details can take up to 24 to 72 hours. 

Does UIF expire if you resign?

The expiration of UIF has become a talk among people who have never claimed their benefits from UIF. Claiming your benefits with UIF means you qualify

Employees can check if they are UIF registered by visiting the department of labour to submit needed particulars. Employees can also login into their UIF platform and view the contributions and declarations documents – once it is confirmed on the portal, it confirms you are UIF registered.

What happens if I am not registered for UIF?

According to the employment act, all employers and employees are obligated to register with UIF. This is backed by law, and any breach could get you fined or jailed. It is part of the constitution and the employment code, and therefore the adherence counts.

If you are not registered with UIF, the department of labour could process you for court, and that is the first punishment that can be served.

On the other hand, you will only be able to make claims for benefits if you are registered. The contributions that will insure you against unemployment will not be available.
