Every application needs certain qualifications, whether for school or social security service. The checks that go into your application throughout are measures to ensure protocols are well observed.

As an applicant, once you decide to sign up or register for a service, the checks around qualification must be done. This is why it is important to check if you qualify for UIF

, whether online or offline.

Checking for your qualification with your UIF is about confirming if the standards set by UIF meet your results. The expected results from an application must coincide with the criteria that UIF looks out for. The interesting is that the UIF is another sort of insurance governed by the South African government.

In this article, we will share with you some details that determine your qualification for UIF, the timeline for the approval, and how you can check your UIF details on your phone.

How do I know if I qualify for UIF?

How can you know if one qualifies for UIF? This can be complex, but upon explanation, it can be very simple. The qualification for UIF is just standards and criteria set aside for an applicant to meet the necessary conditions. Upon registering with UIF, there are terms and conditions laid down to explain what actually qualifies an individual. The terms and conditions, in basic terms, are the requirements that one must adhere to.

So the question is, how do I know I qualify for UIF? Let us break it down for you to understand what this actually means.

First and foremost, you must have registered with UIF and made contributions to the UIF account. Upon a job offer, the registration must be done with your employer. It is mandatory that an applicant must have contributed 2% of the gross monthly salary to UIF; with 1% from the employer and 1% from the employee. This is the ultimate first part of knowing if you indeed qualify for UIF. If you haven’t made any contribution, then you do not qualify.

This contribution made into the UIF account goes directly into that employee’s account as part of his insurance. This amount is not taxable, and it is a fund that is reserved for a period of time to serve as some sort of subsidized salary when there is an issue in the future. At least now, you know what actually gets you started with the qualification of UIF.

The grouped part of the qualification is the moment that UIF indicates a distressing period; this could be being dismissed on a good note or the company going bankrupt and, as a result, must close down. This type of issue puts you in a position to qualify for UIF in terms of claims and benefits. Should you find yourself with any illness but looking for treatment, you qualify to make claims for UIF.

Women planning to go on maternity leave and parental leave certainly qualify for UIF. The social security service has indicated that upon the death of a dependant of the family, the relatives of the applicant, which could be the partner or a sibling, can put in an application as this qualifies you to make claims for UIF. And these things are also the benefits you can derive from UIF, provided you contributed when working.

How long does UIF approval take?

You must understand that the UIF process goes through a lot of screening. Each applicant has an officer who accesses UIF claims to give approval.

The timeline for the UIF approval takes time and may vary accordingly. The delays that may arise could be an internal system failure or wrong application entry. But on the contrary, the UIF approval does not take a long period. Maternity leave is the shortest period for approval to be given. Usually, it does not take more than seven days for an applicant with maternity leave to have UIF approval.

The unemployment issue, on the other hand, takes about two to three weeks before approval is granted. The type of application and claim determines the timeline for approval. The illness, death of a dependant, and adoption take two to four weeks for approval to be granted.

How do I check my UIF on my phone?

UIF has made it possible to check UIF on your mobile phone. With or without the internet, anyone who has applied for UIF can check their status. Using the option that requires no internet could be done by using the USSD short code *134*843#. This allows you to view your account and make all the necessary transactions.

The internet options require you to have your login details available. All you need is to have internet access on your phone, visit your browser, and login into your UIF to check the necessary details using the official web address; www.ufiling.labour.gov.za/uif/login.

How long does it take to get UIF money after applying?

Once you have applied for UIF, the need to exercise patience must be there. Social security serves many people and sees to it that all claims are served without any discrimination. This is even the reason why assessors are assigned to applicants upon applying for UIF. This is to speed up the process by doing the right assessment of the details provided.

If you are looking to know how long it takes to get UIF money after applying, then you should understand this may vary according to your distress or situation. Most of the time, it takes an average of about eight weeks to receive payment, including the approval timeline. This timeline of receiving UIF money was confirmed by the SASSA and the ministry of finance. The organisation does not feel better about delays, but in order to serve all qualified individuals, due diligence must be done; hence, the eight weeks period is indicated.
