The child support grant will increase by R20 to R500 from 1st April 2026 and then by another R10 to R510 on 1st October 2026. The foster care grant will also increase by R50 to R1120 on 1st April 2026, followed by another R10 increase to R1130 on 1st October 2026.

In addition to these increases, military veterans will receive an R90 increase in their grant money. Their grant will increase from R2010 to R2100 on 1st April 2026 and another R10 increase on 1st October 2026.

To ensure you receive your new grant amounts, SASSA grant recipients with SASSA/Postbank-issued gold cards expiring in March 2026 must visit the South African Post Office branches to collect new cards this month. Be sure to bring a copy of your Identity Document (ID) and the expiring SASSA/SAPO gold card.

Are you curious about how much the SASSA grant is per month? We’ve got some excellent news for you. As of October 2026, the SASSA child grant in South Africa will increase from R480 to R510 per child per month. This increase of R10 may not seem like a lot, but it will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of the families who receive it.

The increase in the SASSA grant is part of the government’s commitment to providing social protection for society’s most vulnerable. The Minister of Finance has announced an allocation of R66 billion to the Department of Social Development this year, an increase of approximately 5% from the previous year.

The SASSA grant is vital for many families in South Africa. It covers everything from food to school fees and clothing for children. With the increase, families will be able to provide more adequately for their children and will have access to more resources.
