How Much is the SASSA Grant Money?

Are you a SASSA grant recipient wondering how much your grant money will increase? We have good news for you! As announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in February, social grants will increase twice this year – on 1st April 2024 and 1st October 2024.

“Thanks to an allocation of R66 billion to the Department of Social Development over the medium term, R30 billion meant for”“inflation-linked” increases in social grants, SASSA grant recipients can look forward to receiving more money in their pockets.”Thanks to an allocation of R66 billion to the Department of Social Development over the medium term, R30 billion meant for “inflation-linked” increases in social grants, SASSA grant recipients can look forward to receiving more money in their pockets.

From 1st April 2024, the old age and disability grants will increase by R90, with an additional R10 increase on 1st October 2024. This update means the old age grant will increase to R2080 for recipients between 60 and 74 years old, while recipients over 75 will receive R2100.

The child support grant will increase by R20 to R500 from 1st April 2024 and then by another R10 to R510 on 1st October 2024. The foster care grant will also increase by R50 to R1120 on 1st April 2024, followed by another R10 increase to R1130 on 1st October 2024.

In addition to these increases, military veterans will receive an R90 increase in their grant money. Their grant will increase from R2010 to R2100 on 1st April 2024 and another R10 increase on 1st October 2024.

To ensure you receive your new grant amounts, SASSA grant recipients with SASSA/Postbank-issued gold cards expiring in March 2024 must visit the South African Post Office branches to collect new cards this month. Be sure to bring a copy of your Identity Document (ID) and the expiring SASSA/SAPO gold card.

How Much is SASSA Grant Per Month?

Are you curious about how much the SASSA grant is per month? We’ve got some excellent news for you. As of October 2024, the SASSA child grant in South Africa will increase from R480 to R510 per child per month. This increase of R10 may not seem like a lot, but it will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of the families who receive it.

The increase in the SASSA grant is part of the government’s commitment to providing social protection for the most vulnerable in our society. The Minister of Finance has announced an allocation of R66 billion to the Department of Social Development this year. This case is an increase of approximately 5% from the previous year.

The SASSA grant is vital for many families in South Africa. It covers everything from food to school fees and clothing for children. With the increase, families will be able to provide more adequately for their children and will have access to more resources.

Social grants, including the SASSA grant, will increase in line with inflation over the medium term. Excluding the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant, social grant coverage will increase from about 18.6 million beneficiaries in March 2024 to 19.6 million beneficiaries by March 2026.

In conclusion, the increase in the SASSA grant is good news for families who rely on it to make ends meet. It is a step in the right direction toward achieving more excellent social protection for the most vulnerable members of our society.

The additional funds can help to purchase essential items such as food, clothing, and school supplies for children. This increase is part of the government’s commitment to social welfare and supporting vulnerable members of society.

SASSA has also released the payment dates for April 2024. Child Support and other grants got paid on Thursday, 6th April 2024.
